Unusual Police Presence At National Assembly

There is currently an unusual police presence at the National Assembly. Similarly, a crowd of youths is gathering at the main gate of the Assembly. Security operatives involving the police and National Assembly security personnel are at alert inside the building, mounting guards at the doors of the chambers of both the Senate and the House of Representatives in the White House Our correspondent reports that the development was quite unusual given the fact that both chambers begin plenary by 11 am .

APC senators may unseat Saraki today

Senate President Bukola Saraki PHOTO: There are indications that the reign of Senator Bukola Saraki as the president of the Nigerian Senate may come to an end today if plans by a group of senators materialise. Saraki is rumoured to have concluded his defection plans from the ruling All Progressives Congress sometime this week, a move that would leave the leadership of the Senate in the hands of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party. "There is plan for rival Senate group to sit and elect new principal officers today," a source told The Guardian. Saraki's nPDP caucus of the APC last month accused the APC of failing to honour its campaign promises, tagging the party as deceitful. The group has since cut ties with the APC. Saraki on his part has been having a running battle with a power bloc in the party. This culminated in him being invited by the Nigerian police in June after it claimed that members of a robbery gang that attacked six banks and killed 33 persons...

The police have blocked the Senate President Bukola Saraki's convoy at Lake chad junction on his way to report to the police headquarters upon the last night invitation by the police. Another reports coming in says, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu"s residence has been surrounded by the DSS, the siege may have been plotted against all Principal officers of the National Assembly. - Operatives from the Special Anti Robbery Squad unit of the Nigeria Police, on Tuesday morning, have blocked the convoy of Senate President Bukola Saraki from leaving his Maitama Residence. The stern-looking policemen, it was learnt, stormed the residence at about 6:00a.m. and prevented vehicles from coming in or going out of the expansive residence of Nigeria’s third citizen.
